This noodle stall is hidden in Bukit Tambun, a small town famous for its seafood restaurants on the mainland side of Penang. The proprietor, Mr Ong Lee San, has been selling Hokkien Mee, Loh Mee and Jawa Mee for more than 50 years now. He used to hawk his noodle dishes around this neighbourhood on his motorcycle. As his age is catching up with him, he has decided to set up a stall in front of his house. He operates his stall with the help of his family members. Personally, his noodle dishes are among the better ones and he is generous on their portion. Pork trotters, big prawns and baby octopus are available as add-ons.

It is recommended by the locals for its flavorful broth. It's not the best hokkien mee a.k.a prawn mee we've had, but it's worth a try.

Had a meeting at Bukit Tambun and stumbled upon a bustling neighborhood, even at nearly 3 pm on a Sunday. Opted for Hokkien Mee and Jawa Mee, adding Braised Pig Skin and Prawns. The portions were just right, considering we'd already had lunch. Still, it left us pleasantly satisfied before heading back to the island. The Hokkien Mee was delightful, though the chili paste brought some heat – which I enjoyed, but it might be a bit much for some. The Jawa Mee boasted a savory tomato flavor, and the freshly squeezed lime juice gave it an A+. The prawns were fresh and delicious, but the chili paste was a bit too hot for my boss's liking . Now, the Braised Pig Skin deserves an A++. It was braised to perfection, soft like jelly! Special shoutout to the aunty serving drinks – it was about to rain, and with a quick move, she relocated our drinks and Hokkien Mee to another table just before the rain splashed down .

Operating from a village house, this family-run stall offers delicious Hokkien Mee, Loh Mee and Jawa Mee. We chose Jawa Mee today and it was very good. It had a 'kochabi' or traditional taste. It was not the tomato sauce type of gravy but a thick potato-taste type. It did not come with the crispy crackers but the flour fritters were chunky yet fluffy. The serving was generous and it cost only RM6 per plate. The round tables and stools are of antique age too. A very recommendable place!

Stopped by for lunch before continuing our journey to the North–South Highway. The Hokkien Mee came in a good portion, flavorful with a slight spiciness (might be a bit much for kids). It’s a family-run stall with fast and friendly service. Parking is limited in front, but you can usually find some across the road. Located just beside another kopitiam, easy to spot. Overall, a nice local stop for a quick and satisfying meal. #hokkienmee #prawnmee #noodle #lunch #food #penang #tambun #batukawan
